1703 – Thomas Emlyn, a prominent Unitarian of Dublin, Ireland, was imprisoned for writing “A Humble Inquiry into the Scripture Account of Jesus Christ.” The Dublin ministers accused him of heresy based on circumstantial evidence. He was sentenced to one year in prison and fined £1,000, but he remained in jail for two years because he could not pay so heavy a fine within the year.
