1892 – Thomas Gold Appleton was born in Boston. His father wanted him to join the family business, but he decided to paint and write poetry. Appleton made numerous trips to Europe to study art and became a celebrated author of essays and short stories. he was an active member of the Federal Street Church (now Arlington Street Church) in Boston, and made large contributions of money and art to the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, including Greek and Roman antiquities.
