Friday News 6-25-21

Happy GA Week!

I don’t know about you, but I am so grateful for the opportunity to participate in General Assembly while snuggled under a blanket on my couch with the cat curled up in my lap! I hope that, if you are participating in GA this year, you are finding soul enriching goodness in the worship services, webinars, group break outs, and yes, even the business sessions! You do not have to be registered to see the public live stream options, so check out the schedule here to see what might be of interest to you!

If you are registered for GA, don’t forget that you can join us at the church Saturday at 7:00 pm for the Ware Lecture. Please wear a mask.

And finally, don’t forget, if you would like an announcement in the Friday News, please email me no later than Wednesday at 8:00 pm with FRIDAY NEWS in the subject line.

Virtual hugs,

Kelli McNeal

SUNDAYS AT FIRST UU

Sunday Service – General Assembly Service
Join us Sunday 6/27 for our annual General Assembly service! Last year, more than 10,000 screens tuned in to watch the Sunday Morning Worship at GA! Please join us again for the largest annual gathering of UUs in worship.

Recognizing the importance of shared ministry and the many innovative approaches to worship created by congregations during the pandemic, UUA President, Rev. Dr. Susan Frederick Gray, selected the First Universalist Church of Minneapolis to serve as worship leaders for this year’s GA Sunday Morning service.

June Soul Matters Packets are Here!

Our June Soul Matters Packets on Play have not been mailed yet, but you can find the digital versions here: General Packet (for all ages); Soulful Home (UU activities to do as a family); Chalice Home (tips for creating sacred space at home).

FIRST UU EVENTS & ANNOUNCEMENTS

Ware Lecture
Join us Saturday, June 26th for the General Assembly Ware Lecture. This event is only open to registered attendees of GA and will take place at the church. Please wear a mask. There will not be childcare; children are welcome to stay with their families. There will be discussion after the lecture.

Every year, the UUA President invites a distinguished guest to address the General Assembly as the Ware Lecturer. This year, we are blessed to have two distinguished guests, Stacey Abrams and Desmond Meade. You can read more about the lecturers here. We look forward to seeing you all!

Grief Recovery Support Group
People say you have to let go and move on in your life, but they don’t tell you what you need to do to accomplish that. The Grief Recovery Method Outreach Program not only makes that possible, but provides partnerships and guidance to ensure that it happens. Join us for this important 8-week program, beginning Thursday July 8th at the church.

You must register before attending. Please view this flyer for more information.
First UU Community Quilt Project!
We are inviting everyone to decorate their squares (which you can find in a box outside the front doors of the church, or in your June Soul Matters packet mailing) with an image of a chalice and a reflection of the past year, what you love/miss about First UU, or what you wish for the future. You can use any medium to decorate your square. Please leave a 1/2 inch border because we will be sewing all of the squares together to make a First UU Community Quilt!  Please either return your square to First UU or to Deb Baillieul by AUGUST 1. Our goal is to have 500 squares!

You can join Deb on July 10th from 10:00-Noon (or July 17th if it rains on the 10th) to participate in an outdoor art workshop. If you have any questions, please email Deb. Please register here so that we know how many volunteers will be needed to help!

And a HUGE THANK YOU to Deb Baillieul for taking the lead on this project! We look forward to seeing the quilt all put together on Sunday September 12th at our first in-person service!

Unitarian Universalist Association Events

Register for General Assembly!

General Assembly is an annual event where UUs from around the globe meet to not only do the business of the Unitarian Universalist Association, but to meet one another, and to learn, grow, and deepen their UU faith.  This year, the all virtual event is happening June 23-27. You can find the program booklet here, learn more about GA here, and register here!

There are events that are open for public viewing and do not require registration, or you can register and attend any/all events that interest you! Let us know if you’re registered for GA and we’ll virtually see you there!
