Safe and supervised care for children.  No instruction will be provided or supported.

As you are likely aware, the Columbus Education Association (CEA) and the Columbus City Schools (CCS) have been in contract negotiations this Summer.  The contract between the school district and its teachers’ union expired at midnight last night and CEA members have voted to strike.

We know that many parents rely on schools for child care while they are working.  And, this strike creates a child care crisis for some families.

CEA has approached several churches and other organizations, including First UU, to act as safe and supervised sites for children during the strike. We will not be providing or supporting any instruction.

We will host up to 30 Columbus City School children during school hours (8am-4pm) and provide activities/games, quiet reading space, and snacks. We need volunteers as well as donations of pre-packaged snacks & drinks and/or donations to help cover the cost.
