UPCOMING EVENTS AND OPPORTUNITIES:

First Friday   September 6, 6:30pm-8pm, at Whetstone Park by the lower playground. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and food for yourself, and we’ll bring outdoor games. First UU Bible course   Have you ever thought about whether the Bible teaches our UU principles and values or why it is so foundational to our western culture? First UU Bookstore Volunteers needed   Can you help sell books in Beach Hall one Sunday morning a month? Bookstore proceeds help the church, and volunteers get a 10% discount.  Will Whicker

Men’s Spirituality   Meetings are held at First UU, on themes tied to the lived experience of the men in the group. Contact the listed liaison for further description of the group.
– The Monday group meets every two weeks 7-9pm.  Brian Lohiser

New: Caregiver Support Group   September 24, 6pm, in the private room at Rusty Bucket on North High St. For caregivers of spouses, parents, grandparent, special needs children, friends, etc. Pay for our own meal. Limit 20 (sign-up required with Sylvia). This gathering will be organizational, to decide the format and the meeting date/time.  Sylvia Howe

Grief Recovery Method®   Mondays and Thursdays, 7 – 9pm, October 7-31, at First UU. Have you suffered a loss in your life that has seriously shaken you? People say you have to let go and move on, but they don’t tell you how to do that. This program provides partnerships and guidance. If interested, please join us, Rev. Kathleen Fowler and Rev. Dinner & Conversation   Sign up now for October, November, December, to get to know other UUs. Once a month, groups of eight or so meet for a potluck and conversation. The same groups meet each month. Signing up means you’ll attend the three dinners. Marcia Canter

Cbus ITA: Donations are still needed for asylum seekers coming through Columbus on buses. We need small containers of applesauce, single packets of nuts, and hygiene products. Looking for a few Coffee Hour volunteers! Have you ever dreamed of being one of the reasons someone has a great day? Well…look no further! Coffee Hour volunteers provide a much-needed service to family, friends, visitors, and members each Sunday. And you can be a part of that experience! All we ask for is availability for only one service, for only one Sunday per month. How easy is that?!?!  Denni Hale

The Breakfast Team is looking for people to cook breakfast once a month. Feed friendly, appreciative people before the early service. A great way to meet church members, and make them eggs. Cliff Adams

Navigators USA Chapter 147’s new scouting year starts now, and we invite all families with kids ages 4 to 18 to join us. We are an inclusive, family-friendly, and non-religious group (www.navigatorsusa.org). We meet 3-4 times per month at 1pm at First UU, and each month we have one outing or special activity. There are three age groups: Stargazers (4-8), Junior Navigators (9-12), and Senior Navigators (12-18). Plans include archery, rock climbing, and camping. CIW/Alliance for Fair Food   Food Chains movie, Wednesday, September 18, 7pm at First UU. As a Fair Food Congregation, First UU members continue to support the Coalition of Immokalee Workers (CIW) as they end abuse in the fields and help workers in the dairy and garment industries through the Fair Food Program and Worker-Driven Social Responsibility Network (RSW). Learn more at this movie showing and panel discussion featuring our new Ohio Fair Food leader from the Haas Institute, Wendy Ake, and long-time First UU Fair Food allies. Sue Carter

Feed My Sheep food pantry   September is Socks-It-to-Me Month! Please bring children’s and adult socks, all sizes, to our table in Beach Hall Sunday morning. Also, the pantry needs feminine hygiene products, peanut butter, child and adult diapers, dog and cat food, and children’s books.  Jacques Angelino
