Tuesday Talk

Greetings! Our Church Administrator, Brian Hagemann, is guest editing this week’s edition. He has exciting news about flying!

Hey there folks!
Do you love to fly?  I do.  Love it.  Everything about it — from the people watching at the airport while waiting (yes even the waiting), the boarding process, seeing the excitement (and boredom) of travel for the variety of passengers along for the ride.  Making up fun little stories in my head about all the people I see… and if at ALL possible and I can get a window seat, I’m good for hours upon hours with that new perspective on our world.  I guess I just don’t fly enough for it to become routine.

Well… we have our own dose of excitement coming here this week with our Annual Auction Dinner and Social Event!  This years theme is “Come Fly With Me!”.  I’ll drop in below the pertinent details for you, but need to say that if you’re new, or have not attended an auction dinner before, you’re missing out!  I’ve been coming to auctions since 2008 when my family moved here to Columbus and each year brings new excitement and opportunity to meet folks, enjoy the wonderful appetizers, dinner and baked goods, wine and beer (new this year) and GREAT items to bid on.  No matter what your budget you WILL find things to bid on, and I recommend you especially check out the social gathering events being offered;  museum tours, guided hikes, board game parties, movie nights, excursions and more.  This is an important fundraiser for our church and everyone’s participation DOES make a difference.

We attempt every year to make this a more family friendly event and have childcare available and a special movie with popcorn for the kids!

I really hope to see you there and if I’ve in any way encouraged you to attend for the first time (or 15th!) find me at the auction this Saturday, February 22ndand let me know!

Wheels up!

Come Fly With Me!
FIRST UU ANNUAL AUCTION DINNER & SOCIAL
Saturday, February 22 from 5 pm – 9:30 pm.

We want to see you here!  (We plan for 200 people, we’ve sold over 160 but with your help this Saturday we can reach our goal!).  We have heard that many people will be on vacation or out of town on Feb. 22.)

It will be really fun and the decor this year will be pretty special.    I think I heard it’s a ‘flight theme’!  😉

Tickets will be $18 at the door.  Children 10 and under are free and children between 11 and 16 are $5.   New members can attend for free.

We will have cocktails and beer in addition to wine.  The suggested donations are $3 for beer, $3 for wine, and $5 for our “Rocket Fuel,” a specially formulated (limited edition) rum-and-juice-based cocktail.

We have free child care on auction night complete with a Disney movie, popcorn, pizza, juice boxes, fruit and cookies.  (We also will be handing out Play Doh for the children who are age appropriate.  That is, there is no reason why parents with children should think that their child will not like the auction too!)

Everyone can bid in advance up until Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 11:59 pm if they have already purchased a ticket.  If someone would like to bid in advance and has not bought a ticket, then they can email the auction team at auction@firstuucolumbus.org to be registered to bid online.

We hope that attendees will consider bringing a finger-friendly appetizer, or a bake sale item on auction night so everyone has enough to eat to hold them over until dinner.  If we can get bake sale items by 4pm and appetizers by 4:45 that would be helpful

We still need volunteers!  If anyone can help out in any way, have them contact the auction team at auction@firstuucolumbus.org.  We especially need help from volunteers willing to stay after the auction to help us put the worship center back into Sunday service mode for the following morning.
