During this time, we remember that we are more more than a building. Our church, First UU of Columbus is a vibrant community that seeks connection. Please join us online as we grow in connection and share our experiences and stories. Through Sunday services online (every Sunday at 10am) to the daily blog posts, weekly community chat on Zoom (Thursdays at 7pm), hanging out in discussions on Discord, our UU Cares ministry and many online meeting and gathering opportunities, we hope you’ll continue to connect and make new friends as well.
Please direct questions and any online meeting announcements to Brian Hagemann (firstname.lastname@example.org).
Be well, we miss you all and look forward to connecting. . .

Discord Community Chat Rooms
Discord is an easy to use online chat platform that facilitates group discussions both large and small. It doesn’t require any special software. [If you have not used it yet, just click on JOIN US ON DISCORD to setup a username and join in! There are apps available for iPhone, iPad, Android, Mac and PC as well].
We have created a special First UU Discord channel [HERE] to house all of our conversations with one another. After you watch the daily video or read the blog post, hop on over to our Discord page and join the conversation. You can participate any time, 24/7 and leave a message for others or converse with those online at the same time.
Here we can also share resources, check-in and chat with one another, and even share those silly videos and memes to help bring joy into our days.
We are using the Zoom meeting software for our online services and virtual meetings. For first time users, clicking on a meeting link will walk you through installing zoom in your web browser. We have found that it is relatively easy for most folks to get up and running, however if you have problems let us know at email@example.com.

At any time, but especially during the severe social restrictions placed on us because of the COVID-19 threat, normal and important human interactions may be hard to maintain. First UU wants to extend its love and support to the people who call us their church home. To this end, we are creating a system to stay in regular contact with those in our church community who may feel vulnerable, lonely, or just in need of more human connection.
What is UU Cares?
UU Cares will work similar to a buddy system. People volunteer or request to be paired up with another First UUer. The pair checks on each other regularly, most likely with a phone conversation, to see if they are OK or need anything. Daily check-ins are recommended, especially during this time of heightened anxiety and threat of serious illness. The most important thing is to check-in. The length of conversation is up to the individuals.
It is a blessing to give and to receive.
Please keep up your generous giving. This crisis is affecting many in our community with some First UUers already losing their jobs. Many others are working shorter hours or are on furlough. For those who can, please help us help each other.
Of course, we still need to keep everything else going as well. We will get the roof fixed. We will pay our staff, including part-timers so they won’t lose pay during this time. This is living our values right here at home.
You can also text to give at 614-879-1480. Its quick and easy. The first time doing this, you text ‘give’ to the number and follow the prompts to setup. After that, text an amount to the number to donate that amount. Adding the number to your phone’s contact list makes it easy. Contact firstname.lastname@example.org if you have difficulty, but it really is quite easy.
