Happy June!

Whew! It has been a rough couple of days in the McNeal household. Jay and I got our second booster shots a few days ago and we have been down for the count recovering from that. But, as an immunocompromised person, I know that sometimes what is difficult in the short term is vitally important for the health and safety of ourselves and our community. I have been so proud of this community throughout these last several years, at the ways that we have prioritized first, keeping the oldest in our community safe, and now striving to keep the youngest safe. It’s not always possible to know what is going on in each other’s lives, or behind closed doors, but I know we all care deeply about ensuring that this is a space where everyone can find a spiritual home and a safe space to be their full, authentic selves.

Thank you all for making First UU such a wonderful community. Be sure to check out all of the important announcements below, and, as always, please reach out if you have any questions!

Virtual hugs,

Kelli McNeal
Director of Congregational Life

*Please let Kelli know of any announcements you would like in Friday News by 8 pm Wednesday, and put “Friday News” in the subject line – so that we can be sure to not miss your email! Let us know if you have any questions!

For your protection from scammers and stalkers, we have an OPT IN directory. You have to let us know if you want your name and contact information included! If you do not let us know using the OPT IN option, you will not be included. And your church friends will have a hard time reaching out to you.

If you would like to be included in the directory, please fill out this membership update form and let us know which information you would and wouldn’t like listed. If you are a member and would like a copy of the directory, please contact Marian Garcia in the front office.

This Week’s Sunday Service! 6/5
Rainbows in Our Lives

Join us for our annual service celebrating the hard won victories of the LGBTQ+ community then and now. We’ll travel the yellow brick road, looking backward and forward. In 1993 at the March on Washington for LGBT rights, it was said, “We are afraid no more.” Now we need to show that love and acceptance will not go back in the closet. Service features the summer choir, Rainbow Chorus, and members of First UU’s Rainbow Connexion group.

Worship Presenter: Rev. Marian with Rainbow Connexion

Join us at 10am, in person or online!

The First UU Board of Trustees invites all members and friends to attend our annual business meeting at 11:30 AM on Sunday, June 12th.  The meeting this year will be a hybrid format, allowing you to attend either online or in person.  Those attending in person will need to exit the Worship Center and then check in and go back in, just like we have done in the past. There will be snacks to refresh you and hold you over until the end of the meeting.

Voting for our slate of candidates for Board of Trustees, Nominating Committee, and Moderator, as well as our Share-the-Plate recipients for FY23 is being done online and voting is in process, now.  Online voting will end at noon on the day of the meeting.  If you have not received your online ballot, please first check your spam folder..it’s coming from OPA Vote, and if it’s not there, please contact the Board at board@firstuucolumbus.org.

At the meeting, itself, we will be approving the minutes of the Mid-Year Meeting Minutes and the Budget for FY23.

You may find these two items here:

The group size is between 6-8. The host organizes the dinner and picks a topic for conversation. The goal is to have a good time while getting to know each other!

This sign up is for the third quarter of 2022, July – September. Please let Marcia Canter know by Thursday June 16th if you want to participate.

First UU Pinochle Group
The First UU Pinochle group is looking for experienced Pinochle players to join in the free fun virtually.   We use TricksterCards.com with video, which is downloadable for to your device.  It is so much fun seeing friends while playing.  PLUS — there’s no driving, gas costs, or covid risk!  It is free and easy.

We will be happy to walk you thru the simple set up steps and orientation to TricksterCards in advance of a game night.

Our next game night is scheduled for Monday June 20   6:30pm – 8:30pm (tables open at 6pm — some folks are eager to get a head start!).

If interested, please contact Carol Fleming at  ccfleming79@hotmail.combefore June 10

Pandemic Policy Update

First UU has moved to Mask Optional. For RE on Sundays we suggest children age 2+ years wear masks during indoor group time, but may choose to take them off outdoors, when we are more spaced out. We encourage all families to do what feels comfortable and safe for you!
