Friday’s News & Updates!

April 2, 2021

Happy Friday!

I cannot believe how quickly 2021 is moving forward! I hope that with the change in weather, you’re able to get outside more, work in your gardens or go for a bike ride. I’m certainly enjoying not having to put a coat on all the time to go outside!

Keep scrolling to check out all of the wonderful offerings we have coming up. I especially want to point you to First UU’s BIPOC Caucus and Anti-Racism Allies Group, which will be having their first meetings on April 16th. See below for more information.

And, as always, my weekly reminder, if you would like an announcement in the Friday News, please email me no later than Wednesday at 8:00 pm with FRIDAY NEWS in the subject line.

Virtual hugs,

First UU Ways to Connect

Sunday Service – The Other Side of the Stone
Join us Sunday, April 4th, as we celebrate Easter by examining what it means to emerge, to come back to life. The parallels of the Easter story and the dismantling of pandemic restrictions are rich in symbolism, but how does the religious message relate to the practical? And what is left hidden behind the stone rolled in front of the tomb – and our un/belief?

You are also invited to join in the Easter tradition of wearing an Easter/Spring hat or bonnet to coffee hour. Plain or fancy. We look forward to seeing your creativity!

Coffee Hour Options
Join us for coffee hour after the service for your choice of activities. Both

Stay in the main coffee hour and hide an easter egg somewhere in your picture for a virtual Easter egg hunt, and then our traditional break out rooms

Join a breakout zoom to participate in Easter communion.  Please bring your own version of bread and wine so we can all participate together.

Congregational Future Vision Survey
Dear First UU Members and Friends,

The deadline to complete the congregational survey has been extended to 4/5. Please take a moment to fill this out to help us as we work on our plans for the future of the church.

First UU Wants to help YOU get the Covid Vaccine!
Are you eligible to get the Covid vaccine, but you aren’t sure how to make an appointment, or need help getting to an appointment? Our Pastoral Team wants to help you. Reach out to Bob Mills for more information and assistance in getting this life saving vaccine. If you are fully vaccinated (meaning 2 weeks past your last vaccination) and would feel comfortable driving people to their appointments, CRC is looking for volunteers. Please fill out this volunteer application.

We also wanted to let you know that you do not need to be an OSU patient to get your Covid vaccine at the Schottenstein Center. Just Call 614-688-VAXX(8299) to get set up so you can schedule an appointment when you are eligible.

Faith Forward – UU History 101

UU History 101 is a 7 session introduction to concepts and people from our history. In this series, we approach history from the starting point of compelling stories and personalities. We will explore the questions those people faced, and make connections with our own lives and the world around us today. The overarching question is: how can history be translated into our religious life and practice? In addition to learning about history, we hope you will learn about yourselves. Registration is open now, and classes will start Monday, April 12th at 7:00 pm.Visit our website to learn more about Faith Forward, register for the UU History class, and see the other incredible courses that are being offered next!

First UU Groups

Black, Indigenous, People of Color Caucus
As part of our goal to live into the ideas and dreams of Beloved Community, we acknowledge that for too long, People of Color have struggled silently within our community. We also acknowledge our part in perpetuating an insider/outsider culture and want to all we can to create space for those in our community who far too often find themselves on the outside looking in. As part of our effort to live into the 8th Principle’s call for accountability, we are introducing the Black, Indigenous, People of Color Caucus here at First UU.

If you identify as Black, Indigenous, or a Person of Color, you are invited to our first group meeting on Friday April 16th at 6:00 pm.Please email Kelli McNeal ( for Zoom information.

Anti-Racism Allies Group
We are also creating an Anti-Racism Allies Group, which will help lift up and support the efforts and goals of our BIPOC community. We are asking all participants in this group to have gone through Beloved Conversations or our new program, Living the Pledge, which will hopefully begin being offered later this spring. The Anti-Racism Allies Group’s goal is to continue to work to dismantle systems of racism and oppression within ourselves and within our community, so that we can fully live into the Welcoming Congregation that we all dream First UU to be.

The first meeting will be Friday, April 16th at 6:00 pm. Please email Kelli McNeal ( for Zoom information.
