Sunday Service – A Dialogue on Beloved Community
Join us Sunday, February 21st, as Rev. Marian and board vice-chair Don Jones invite us to join their dialogue on Beloved Community. Some communities, especially religious ones, have central narrative, precepts, or doctrines that hold people together – “ties that bind” as the old hymn goes. As Unitarian Universalists who embrace a plurality of beliefs and hold no singular creed, what holds us together in shared community? Join us in a dialogue to explore the promises and the challenges of being a beloved community as First UUs and in the broader church.
It’s time for Nominations!
The Nominating Committee needs your help! If you are considering a leadership position, or you know someone who would be a fantastic contribution, please fill out this nomination form to let the Committee know. First UU is able to thrive because of all of you, so please consider nominating yourself or someone else to help us plan for and shape our future!
February Soul Matters Packets are Here!
Our February Soul Matters Packets on Beloved Community have all been mailed. We know that the post office is pretty backed up, so it may take longer than usual for you to receive your packet. You can find the digital versions here: General Packet (for all ages); Soulful Home (UU activities to do as a family); Chalice Home (tips for creating sacred space at home).

Faith Forward – Spiritual Practices
We are so excited to introduce Faith Forward, an adult RE curriculum developed by the First Unitarian Church of Dallas. We will begin this curriculum with Spiritual Practices – a 12 session series that helps us to develop regular disciplines of the spirit – practices that help us connect with the sacred. You do not need to attend all of the sessions, so if you can’t attend one or a couple, don’t let that stop you from participating!

Spiritual Practices next class will be Monday, February 22nd at 7:00 pm. We will be covering the practices of Mindful Eating and Mindful Walking. (The walking meditation is open to all, regardless of ability. There are modifications that we can talk about in class.) Please bring a snack and make sure that you have room to move around.

Session objectives are:

  • Be introduced to eating mindfully
  • Be introduced to walking meditation
  • Experience both walking and eating meditation practice

Visit our website to learn more about Faith Forward, register for the Spiritual Practices class, and see the other incredible courses that are being offered next!

Meditation Group

Barb Fiorini will facilitate a loving-kindness meditation on Sunday 2/21. Together, we’ll practice fostering compassion for ourselves and for others. We’ll reflect on our emotional reactions to the Covid vaccination process, sending compassion and gratitude out into the world. Afterward, we’ll ask the group for feedback and float ideas for additional meditation sessions in future months. Every is welcome.

To participate, join the Coffee Hour Zoom after Sunday service on 2/21, and watch for instructions to connect to the meditation room. If you cannot attend but still want to share feedback or ideas about these meditations, please reach out to Isabel via email.

Black, Indigenous, People of Color Group
If you identify as Black, Indigenous, or a person of color (BIPOC), you’re invited to join us for the Central East Region’s BIPOC gathering – happening two Mondays per month at 6:30 pm.

In our gatherings, we are joined by lay folx of color, lay leaders of color and/or religious professionals of color to be in community. Our conversations focus on topics like wellness and resilience, and our goal is to center BIPOC experiences and create space to explore our UU experiences.

Please email Sana Saeed, or Paula Cole Jones for Zoom information. Dates for Winter/Spring Gatherings: February 22, March 8 & 22, April 12 & 26, May 10 & 24, and June 14 & 28.
