Special Musical Events
Our music program offers a number of special musical events occurring throughout the year. Annually we have had a Talent Show and a Sing-along. The Talent Show is where members of the congregation show off their special abilities, whether as singers, musicians, poets, actors, comedians, etc. The Sing-along brings people together simply to sing favorite songs where lyrics are posted on a large screen. Some of the themes have included folk music, Broadway, songs from the hymnal, the Beatles and Motown.
We also have performances by touring and local musicians. In recent years we have had performances from professional groups such as the Chiarina Piano Quartet and the Apollo Woodwind Quintet, community ensembles like the Metropolitan Chamber Orchestra and the talent young people of the Chamber Music Connection, and the Bowling Green State University A Cappella Choir. Local troubadour Bill Cohen has presented his “1960’s Coffeehouse.” and his “Songs of Struggle – music of the Civil Rights Movement,” and several highly talented church members have offered recitals. In addition we have sponsored dances and events for children.
