Nine. Members helped to organize and host annual Meet-the-Candidates Night.
Purpose
Nineteen years ago, Brookwood Presbyterian Church hosted the first candidate's night on Columbus' east-side that was later to gain support of area congregations and become the Franklin County Consortium for Good Government. Today, the consortium has over fifty sponsors - secular and religious, social and political, large and small, conservative and liberal. The evenings hosted by sponsoring congregations are considered the best organized and moderated. The community is provided an opportunity to meet candidates for elective office and ask questions to become better informed voters.
Scope
Candidate's nights are organized across Franklin county each fall, hosted by sponsoring congregations.
Justification for First UU Support
Supporting, organizing, and hosting candidate's nights is consistent with our principle "We affirm and promote the right to conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large."
Additional funding
Sponsor dues $7,500 (minimum $50 per sponsor).
