On May 27th, 2009, the board of trustees of the First UU Church of Columbus, Ohio authorized the formation of a Racial Diversity Task Force. The purpose of the task force is threefold:
- research the efforts within the UU movement and in other faiths aimed at creating multiracial congregations,
- build coalitions with others organizations working toward the same goal of racial unity, and
- organize events such as workshops, discussion forums, films and potlucks that facilitate grassroots human connections.
Our faith demands that we build bridges and break down walls. Our citizenship requires that we work for a society without artificial boundaries.
How can you help?
The task force needs people who are compulsive seekers of common ground and coalitions. Are you one of those?
If you are or if you have a soft spot in your heart for racial unity and reconciliation, please contact the coordinators of the task force (

Dear members and friends of the Racial Diversity Task Force:
We're trying to gauge member interest in upcoming RDTF-recommended events/meetings. These include the series on our new mission/vision statements as well as an OMD day-long workshop. Please indicate which events you will be able to attend by clicking on the link below. It will then open up a form. Check the boxes and click "Submit." (There's also a space to specify if you would like more info. or a phone call from one of the RDTF coordinators.)
All are encouraged/pleaded with/begged to attend as many events as possible and keep the topic of racial reconciliation on the front burner of our church and community. This is very much in alignment with our denominational direction. As we shared before, we need to equip ourselves with the necessary theory/strategies as we embark on practical service in the coming months.
