A Program of Self-Defense, Self-Esteem, and Social Justice For Our Children To Take Into Adulthood.
This program is designed to teach our children self defense skills in accord with Unitarian Universalist principles. It is integrated with the religious education offered through our Sunday School. A sense of security in one’s person liberates a person from many obstacles and burdens of the spiritual journey. Furthermore, we ask our children to integrate social justice into their spirituality, challenging prejudice, privilege, and injustice. We know that is difficult for our adults to do. We know that this challenge may be met with resistance, and even danger. We know that being a UU puts our children at risk of being identified as different from their peers and made possible targets of the bullying we ask them to challenge.
We owe it to our children to help them acquire the confidence and competence to interact with the injustices of the world knowing they can protect their being, worth, and dignity.
