Acorn Logo newThe Acorn Society was founded to recognize individuals who have chosen to remember First Unitarian Universalist Church of Columbus in their estate plans. Your planned gift ensures that there will be a welcoming liberal religious presence in Columbus for generations to come. Here are six easy ways you can make a planned gift.

  • Bequests: You can reduce inheritance taxes by designating First UU as a beneficiary of specific gifts of cash or a percentage of your estate.

  • Gifts of stocks, bonds and mutual funds: You can make a gift of stock either by direct transfer or by mail.

  • Life Insurance, Retirement Plans and IRA's: Designating First UU as a beneficiary of a paid up or new life insurance policy, retirement plan, or IRA reduces your estate taxes and helps secure the future of the church.

  • Life Income Gifts: Gifts of appreciated property can generate income for you, provide positive tax benefits, and support the church. Examples of life income gifts are charitable gift annuities, pooled income funds and charitable remainder trusts.

  • Retained Life Estate: You retain occupancy of your property for life, but give your home or farm to the church to be used to supplement its future income.

  • Real or Personal Property: You can give gifts of real estate, art, antiques or other personal property to the church and you may be able to deduct the full fair market value of the gift from your taxes.

Wake Now Our Vision - Collaborative Campaign

The WNOV Universalist Collaborative Campaign Legacy Challenge is a joint effort of the following UU institutions: the Unitarian Universalist Association, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, Meadville Lombard Theological School, Starr King School for the Ministry, the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association, and the Church of the Larger Fellowship.

The UU Congregation at Shelter Rock recognizes the power of legacy giving and, through its incredible generosity, has offered a $5 million grant to incentivize new planned gifts made before June 30, 2020. Its goal is to raise a total of $50 million in new planned gifts.

New legacy gift intentions designating First Unitarian Universalist Church or one or more of the WNOV partner institutions above as beneficiaries may be eligible for a 10% matching cash gift, up to $10,000.
