Who We Are

We are a local group of UUs concerned about Economic Globalization issues.

What Is Globalization?

Those who see it as having a positive effect define Economic Globalization as the free market system taken to its logical conclusion.  They believe more efficient markets have the potential to benefit society in ways such as the alleviation of  world hunger.

Those of us who see its potential for negative effects on society realize that 'free trade' is seldom 'fair trade', especially when it involves 'first world' economies  benefiting from cheap labor and resources provided by 'developing' countries. In this case, the few, corporations in the developed nations which benefit from trade, are making decisions affecting the environment, human rights, and human dignity of the

many. People who may believe they will benefit from world market participation,  end up instead as victims of exploitation as their labor and natural resources and are consumed by the developed nations.
