The Wake Now Our Vision  (WNOV) Universalist Collaborative Campaign Legacy Challenge is a joint effort of the following UU institutions: the Unitarian Universalist Association, the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee, Meadville Lombard Theological School, Starr King School for the Ministry, the Unitarian Universalist Ministers Association, and the Church of the Larger Fellowship.

The UU Congregation at Shelter Rock recognizes the power of legacy giving and, through its incredible generosity, has offered a $5 million grant to incentivize

new planned gifts. Its goal is to raise a total of $50 million in planned gifts by 2020. WNOV provides Unitarian Universalists with the opportunity to make a difference now and to shape the future of Unitarian Universalism for generations to come.

New legacy gift intentions designating one or more of the WNOV partner institutions above or First Unitarian Universalist Church as beneficiaries may be eligible for a 10% matching cash gift, up to $10,000.

Two Easy Ways to Leave a Legacy

1. Remember us in your will or living trust. Including a gift to First UU or another UU organization in your will or living trust allows you to offer future support without giving up assets today. You can leave First UU a specific dollar amount, an asset, or a percentage of your estate.

2.  Name us as a beneficiary of your retirement account. By naming First UU or another UU organization as the beneficiary of your retirement account, your estate will receive an estate tax charitable deduction and First UU can take a tax-free withdrawal of the account balance, making this a simple way to put the full amount of your gift to use.

When do I need to make my legacy intention?

New Legacy gift intentions made before June 30, 2020, will qualify for this legacy match program.

I already made a legacy gift intention years ago. Does that count?

Thank you for including Unitarian Universalism in your legacy plans! For the purposes of the Legacy Challenge, legacy gifts will qualify as “new” if they are made between January 1, 2017 and June 30, 2020 or if the receiving institution is unaware of the intention. If you have already notified the receiving institution, you can still participate in the Legacy Challenge by increasing your legacy intention and/or by including additional UU organizations/congregations.
